Harken w/ill read from The 86th Degree, talk about her writing process, motivations, and sign her books purchased at UBS.

We have a delicious way to raise money for the Hawkeye Chapter of the American Red Cross! Just dine at Perkins Restaurant in Waterloo located at 3280 University Avenue on May 15th an 10% of you pre-tax total will be donated to the Hawkeye Chapter!

May 17th, 2008 - 44th Annual Waterloo Jaycees Sandbox Drive

The Waterloo Jaycees are selling sandboxes as a fundraiser to help support their community and youth based activities. Each order includes a 5'x5' sandbox, 2 wheelbarrows of sand, delivery and set-up for only $50. (Sand only deliveries are also available for $5/wheelbarrow - $10 minimum order required). To place your order call Dustin Meller at 319-415-0810 by Friday, May 9th. Delivery will be on Saturday, May 17th. Delivery is limited the Waterloo and Cedar Falls city limits.

Downtown Waterloo's Farmers Market offers the freshest produce, cut flower arrangements, plants, baked goods and jams and jellies. Every Saturday morning at the Regions Bank parking lot, 100 E. Park Ave. from 8:00 am to Noon, May 3 through October 25, 2008. Vendors accept Iowa Farmers Market Nutrition and Senior Program coupons and credit/debit card machines are available. Food grown at home is always the freshest.

May 19th, 2008 - ACA Kayak Training Classes

Join Crawdaddy's owner Darrin Siefken, ACA kayak instructor for the American Canoe Association's quickstart your kayak program. This class will teach you about different types of kayaks, gear and equipment, paddle strokes, kayak transportation and basic paddling safety. This is a great class for begining paddlers.

May 19th, 2008 - KUNI's Live from Studio One - The Starlings

The Starlings have captured the ears of fans both in the Northwest and beyond with their unique blend of American country and folk music. Based out of Seattle, they’ve been called one of the Northwest’s top ten bands. Led by the magnetic harmonies and songwriting of native Iowan Joy Mills and Tom Parker, the lyrics and vocals are all at once wistful and fierce, haunting and soothing. "Marveling the While" is the title of their new CD.

This unique weekly music program is produced and hosted by Iowa Public Radio’s Karen Impola. Unless otherwise noted, each Monday evening's show is broadcast live from KUNI’s 3rd floor studios in the Communication Arts Center on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls. The public is invited to be part of the Studio One audience for this live show. Admission is $3 at the door, free for children under 12.

May 19th, 2008 - Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Annual Golf Tournament

The Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare's Foundations Annual Golf Tournament is being planned as you read this. It will be held May 19th at the Beaver Hills Country Club. Last year was the first and it was a huge success with nearly 100 golfers taking in the beautiful weather. Proceeds benefit Covenant Foundation and Sartori Healthcare Foundation for various projects.

This is an astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban's backyard.
